A critical match for positions in the Western Conference is ahead when the San Jose Earthquakes play host to FC Dallas at Avaya Stadium on Sunday afternoon before a FOX Sports 1 audience. The teams are separated by just three points in the divisional table. The Quakes sit in sixth place after their 3-1 loss at Toronto FC last weekend that snapped a five-game undefeated run. FC Dallas are just three points farther ahead, having started their five-game road swing with back-to-back losses, last a 4-0 defeat at Sporting Kansas City.
- Chris Wondolowski scored for a fourth consecutive game – now with eight goals this season, second in the MLS Golden Boot standings – but the Quakes saw their five-game undefeated streak come to an end with their first loss since April 17 in a 3-1 defeat at Toronto FC on Saturday evening.
- FC Dallas suffered their second consecutive loss – their second 4-0 defeat this season – falling to Sporting Kansas City on Friday evening. FCD had previously lost 4-0 to the Colorado Rapids on April 10, the second of their other back-to-back losses this year.
- The teams are meeting for the second time this season. Blas Perez scored the game’s lone goal deep into second-half stoppage time to have FC Dallas the victory in the season opener for both teams, March 7 at Toyota Stadium.
- FCD has won the last two matchups between the clubs. The FC Dallas victory in the final meeting at Buck Shaw Stadium a year ago – a 5-0 victory – was their first on the road against San Jose since 2009, a 2-1 win in Santa Clara.
