Philadelphia Union and New York City FC meet for the third and final time in league play this season when the clubs clash Saturday evening at PPL Park. Union have started a move up the Eastern Conference with three wins in their last four games, coming off a 3-0 defeat of Columbus Crew SC at midweek in Chester. It’s now 11 games in a row without a victory for NYCFC, coming off a 1-1 home draw with the Houston Dynamo at Yankee Stadium last weekend.
- David Villa scored his third MLS goal, his first since April 11, converting a penalty kick, but NYCFC still reached a 1-1 draw with the Houston Dynamo at Yankee Stadium on Saturday evening.
- NYCFC saw their overall winless streak extended to 11 games; the longest winless streak for an expansion team is 14 games, set by Vancouver Whitecaps FC in 2011. NYCFC also saw their Yankee Stadium winless run stretched to six games.
- The teams are meeting for the third time this season, with the two previous meetings coming over a five-day span. On April 11 at PPL Park, Vincent Nogueira scored well into second-half stoppage time to give Union a dramatic 2-1 victory. Then on April 16 at Yankee Stadium, Union’s CJ Sapong netted a late equalizer to cancel out a Mehdi Ballouchy and leave the teams in a 1-1 draw.
