NEW YORK RED BULLS vs. COLORADO RAPIDS
RED BULL ARENA, Harrison, N.J.
April 29, 2015 (WEEK 9, MLS Game #75)
7:30 p.m. ET (MLS LIVE, MSG, Altitude)
The New York Red Bulls and Colorado Rapids will kick off Week 9 of the 2015 MLS season on Wednesday when Pablo Mastroeni and Co. travel to Harrison to take on the Eastern Conference power at Red Bull Arena. New York are the lone remaining unbeaten team in MLS, having moved their record to 3-0-3 after drawing the LA Galaxy 1-1 at home on Sunday. After going winless – and goalless – in their first four matches of the year, Colorado have responded decently in their last three games, posting a 1-1-1 record and scoring six times.
REFEREE: Mark Geiger. AR1 (bench): Greg Barkey; AR2 (opposite): Brian Dunn; 4th: Alex Chilowicz

AT RED BULLS (19 meetings): Red Bulls 9 wins, 40 goals … Rapids 7 wins, 29 goals … Ties 3
  • The Red Bulls set a club record for longest unbeaten streak to start a season on Sunday, breaking the five-game unbeaten run achieved at the start of the 2007 season, with a 1-1 draw against LA on Sunday to move to 3-0-3 on the year. While they stayed unbeaten, the Red Bulls fell out of first in the East with the result, slipping behind weekend winners New England Revolution and D.C. United.
  • Felipe scored his first goal in a Red Bulls uniform on Sunday, fortuitously getting on the end of a deflected ball in the box and heading a close-range effort home to tie the game in the 58th minute. Felipe was acquired by New York this offseason in a trade with Montreal that reunited the Brazilian midfielder with first-year Red Bulls coach Jesse Marsch, whom he played under when Marsch coached the Impact in 2012.
  • The Rapids bounced back from a 3-1 home defeat to Seattle with a 1-1 draw against Dallas in their last match, getting a second-half equalizer from midfielder Nick LaBrocca to earn a point at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park on Friday. While Colorado picked up a result, they weren't entirely thrilled with their performance, which saw the Rapids hold a man advantage for the final 30 minutes after Dallas forward Blas Perez was ejected in the 59th minute.
  • The sides drew their lone meeting against each other last season, playing to a 1-1 tie at Red Bull Arena on March 15, 2014. Thierry Henry opened the scoring, giving the Red Bulls a 57th-minute lead before Rapids attacker Vicente Sanchez equalized with a 72nd-minute penalty kick.
  • The Rapids have never won at Red Bull Arena, posting a 2-0-2 record in four regular-season contests at New York.

The Colorado Rapids and FC Dallas meet for the second time in three weeks when the Western Conference foes face off in the second game of the Viernes de Fútbol doubleheader at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. The Rapids claimed their
first win of the season with their first goals with a 4-0 win at FC Dallas two weeks ago in Frisco. Colorado weren’t able to build upon that win, suffering a 3-1 defeat by Seattle Sounders FC in Commerce City last week, while FC Dallas bounced back with a 3-2 win against Toronto FC at Toyota Stadium.
  • Fabian Castillo scored his second career two-goal game in MLS, as FC Dallas snapped their three-game winless run with a 3-2 win against Toronto FC on Saturday at Toyota Stadium. Castillo’s goal after just 29 seconds in the win vs. TFC was the quickest goal in FCD club history, and the 16th-fastest goal ever in MLS.
  • Gabriel Torres scored for a second consecutive match, but the Rapids weren’t able to build upon their first win of the year, falling 3-1 to Seattle Sounders FC at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park over the weekend. Torres and Dillon Powers each have one goal and two assists this season; the pair has figured in every one of Colorado’s six goals this season.
  • The teams are meeting for the second time this season, and the second time in three weeks. The Rapids put an end to their long winless and goalless streaks with a dominant 4-0 win vs. FC Dallas on April 10 at Toyota Stadium.
  • FC Dallas won on their last trip to Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, a 1-0 victory in the final meeting a year ago. The Rapids have won just one of their last four home matches against FCD. The Rapids’ win in the first meeting this year was their first in Frisco since 2012, and ended a three-game FCD winning streak in the series.

LAST MEETING (MLS)
4/10: DAL 0, COL 4 (Badji 2; Powers 43; Torres 70; Serna 85)
  • The Rapids scored their first league goal in six months and more than 10 hours of play in just the second minute. Dominique Badji put an end to the streak of attacking futility in style, turning home a Dillon Powers cross from the right wing from close range into the back of the net.
  • Powers doubled the lead in the 43rd minute, taking a feed on the left side of the FCD area, turning around a defender and driving at the goal before unleashing a low, left-footed blast inside the far post.
  • The score became 3-0 in the 70th minute when Juan Ramirez corralled the ball in the box and laid it off for Gabriel Torres, who slammed home a right-footed blast from the edge of the area.
  • The rout was complete five minutes from time when Dillon Serna drove forward out of midfield and hammered a well-taken left-footed missile from well outside the penalty area that beat Seitz high.

A pair of clubs which find themselves at the opposite end of the Western Conference table meet when FC Dallas play host to the Colorado Rapids at Toyota Stadium on Viernes de Fútbol. FC Dallas saw their undefeated start to the campaign come to an end last weekend, falling out of the West leadership following a 3-1 loss at the Portland Timbers. The Rapids have equaled MLS history, now 18 league games without a victory, and without a goal in their last 10 hours of MLS competition, following a 2-0 home defeat by the New England Revolution.
  • FC Dallas saw their undefeated start to the season come to an end, losing 3-1 to the Portland Timbers on Saturday evening at Providence Park, despite a second goal this year from Tesho Akindele. FCD have recorded a draw and a loss after opening the year with three consecutive wins.
  • The Rapids also saw their undefeated start to the season come to an end, falling 2-0 to the New England Revolution on Saturday at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. The Rapids had opened the campaign with an MLS record three consecutive scoreless draws.
  • With the loss to New England, the Rapids saw their overall winless streak reach 18 matches, tying the all-time MLS record set by Real Salt Lake in 2005-06. • FC Dallas has a three-game winning streak alive against the Rapids, winning all three meetings a season ago. FC Dallas has won the last four meetings between the teams in Frisco, Colorado last winning there in 2012.
