- Crew SC had their league winless run extended to six games in their last match, coming back for a 1-1 draw at home with the LA Galaxy on June 6.
- The Revolution lost their third consecutive away match in league play over the weekend, dropping a 2-1 decision at D.C. United on Sunday afternoon. The Revs have won once in their last nine games in all competitions.
- The teams are meeting for the second time this season. They reached a scoreless draw April 11 at Gillette Stadium.
- The Revolution have come away with a result on three of their last four trips to Columbus, including victories in both league meetings there in 2013. Crew SC took a 1-0 win Sept 20 in the only league contest between the clubs in the Ohio state capitol last year, but the Revolution claimed a 4-2 victory there in the first leg of their Eastern Conference Semifinal Series.
